DESCRIPTION:Sara Gillooly of the North Carolina branch of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) will speak about the bail bonds system in the U.S. and why it needs reforming.  According to Ms. Gillooly:  \n“Money shouldn’t determine anyone’s freedom. But in North Carolina\, our shameful system of cash bail has created a two-tiered justice system that treats people differently not because of the crime they’ve committed but because of the color of their skin and the size of their bank account. \nThat’s why we are launching a statewide\, multiyear effort to overhaul our broken criminal justice system. We are focusing on the unjust for-profit bail system that strips people of their rights\, targets poor people and people of color\, and hurts families and communities.
