SUMMARY:Labor Day Holiday
DESCRIPTION:We will NOT be meeting due to the Labor Day Weekend.  And don’t forget\, labor unions had to fight for this holiday.  It was not “given” to us by the kindness of corporations.  Read about the history of Labor Day at Wikipedia:\nhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day

SUMMARY:Microplastics and PFAs
DESCRIPTION:Atish Sen\, EHST member and professional chemist\, will share his analysis of the controversy over microplastics and PFAs.  Separating fact from fiction is requires careful reading\, and some skepticism.  Have you ever wondered why microplastic photos show them on a person’s finger?  Those are the large pieces\, but some are microscopic and those are much more dangerous!  Mr. Sen will enlighten us on both microplastics and PFAs. \nThis program will be presented via a Zoom session. You do not need a Zoom account to “attend” this virtual meeting.  If you would like to be a participant in the meeting\, please use our contact us form (https://ehstnc.org/contact-us/) to make your request.

SUMMARY:How Citizens in Johnston County Stopped a Pipeline
DESCRIPTION:Francine Stephenson will speak to us and show us a documentary about how Johnston County stopped the Atlantic Coast Pipeline from coming through their community.  The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League\, which Lois Gibbs created\, provided a grant to these citizens to help with the fight\, and that was crucial to their success. \n  \nThis meeting is a Zoom “hybrid” meeting.  We will meet at a different venue than our normal one.  We will meet the Carrboro Civic Center where the program will take place.  We will also Zoom the program.    If you wish to attend via Zoom\, please use our contact us form (https://ehstnc.org/contact-us/) to make your request.

SUMMARY:Social Action - Postcarding
DESCRIPTION:EHST will be postcarding to support voter turnout in the upcoming midterm elections.  The Center for Common Ground is providing us with the postcards and list of voters to contact.  The CCG “educates and empowers voters of color in voter suppression states” with the goal of “building a democracy that prioritizes the voices of all people.” \nWe will gather at 134 Circadian Way in Chapel Hill; the meeting room is on the lower level of the building.  There is one handicapped parking space near the entry\, and there are also two adjacent spaces\, mainly used for EV charging\, but also available for handicapped parking. Otherwise\, any space either graveled or paved and not designated “Arcadia Resident” is free to use.   Pens\, highlighters and postcards will be provided.  Participants can bring snacks to share if they like. Come and enjoy friendly camaraderie as well as the satisfaction of civic engagement. \nWe will not be Zooming this event.
