Bill Moyers recent documentary "State of Conflict: North Carolina" was shown at 2 p.m. on February 16th at Extraordinary Ventures (200 S. Elliot Street, Chapel Hill). This event was sponsored by the Ethical Humanist Society of the Triangle and Common Cause NC. Moyers shows how the influence of "dark money" (large amounts of money that are difficult to trace) have influenced politics and policy here in North Carolina. Moyers points the finger at Art Pope and the Pope Foundation. See this article in the News and Observer for additional information.
Following the showing of the hour long documentary, there was a panel discussion moderated by Bob Phillips of Common Cause NC. The panelists were former State Senator Ellie Kinnaird, Mary Phillips, Professor at the Business School of North Carolina Central University, and Gene Nichol, Distinguished Professor of Law at UNC-CH and Director of the Center on Poverty, Work, and Opportunity. A question and answer session followed the panel discussion.
