Caring for the Formerly Incarcerated: New York to North Carolina

Carol Van Deusen became involved with the formerly incarcerated in 2016 after retirement. She needed something else to do and New York City has a wonderful program called NYCares that offers opportunities to volunteer for various social service programs on a daily basis without feeling committed. She tried many different volunteer opportunities but found her calling helping people newly freed from prison to reenter society. The New York Society for Ethical Culture sponsored and provided office space for the Social Justice Network (SJN), dedicated to reentry. Carol and Dick now serve on the SJN board.
