Exploring Ethical Decision Making
May 19, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
May 19th is our annual Founders Day celebration. This year our program will be: Exploring Ethical Decision Making.
Every day we come across problems, large and small, that require some thought and comparisons to reach the ‘right’ decision. Often we have limited information but still need to take action. Today’s program will be a combination description and workshop in ethical decision making. by Jan Broughton, EHST member.
Using Arthur Dobrin’s book, Ethics for Everyone: How to Increase your Moral Intelligence, we will be presented with a dilemma and asked to choose the right response based on the facts as known. When given more information, does the decision become clearer? What questions do we need to ask? What assumptions can we make? What are some strategies for assessing the harms and benefits of a course of action? Through this exercise we can increase our ability to approach ethical analysis in a more effective way.
