How the Chickasaw Nation Is Embracing Science

Conner Sandefur will introduce you to the Chickasaw Nation, a sovereign American Indian nation now located in southcentral Oklahoma. He will discuss some of the research that the Chickasaw Nation and others are doing to improve health and wellness of Indian People (Hattak Api’ Homma’). He will also discuss the role of two professional societies, SACNAS and AISES, in increasing tribal nations’ capacity for scientific research.
Conner Sandefur holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Michigan. His company, Sandefur Modeling, helps organizations tackle complex problems using mathematical and computational modeling. Conner resides in Pittsboro, NC and is a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation.
