Trying Not to Try: The Power of Spontaneity

March 27, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

  • « Music and the Mind
  • The Humanitarian Situation in Poland with Regard to Ukrainian Refugees »

Dr. Edward Slingerland is a Distinguished University Scholar and Professor of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia with appointments in the Departments of Psychology and Asian Studies. His first popular book, Trying Not to Try: Ancient China, Modern Science, and the Power of Spontaneity, offers a description of the ancient concept of Wu Wei and how it relates to modern life. Can the effortless action that is the essence of Wu Wei be a key to enhancing trust, commitment, spontaneity, and happiness in our world today? In a recorded TEDx talk, Dr. Slingerland approaches the topic of Wu Wei through the lens of our modern experience. We will have discussion following this brief video.

This meeting is a Zoom “hybrid” meeting.  We will meet at our regular venue, Extraordinary Ventures, where the program will take place.  We will also Zoom the program.    If you wish to attend via Zoom, please email info@ncethicalsociety.org with your first and last name to be registered as an attendee for this program.
