Why A Free Press Still Matters

The subtitle for this presentation is “Fact, Reality and Democracy in a Pick Your Truth World”.  Bill Horner III will speak to us about this critical resource for our democracy, and what we can do to preserve it.

Bill Horner III has spent most of his career in newspapering. His first byline in The Sanford Herald, founded by his grandfather in 1930, came when he was 13 years old. He spent more than 30 years at The Herald, the last 18 as publisher. The newspaper was recognized with four first-place “General Excellence” awards during his last six years there. After a short retirement beginning in 2016, Bill served for more than four years as publisher and editor of The Chatham News + Record, which won more news reporting awards than any other weekly newspaper in N.C. during his tenure there.
